Outreach Mentoring Programme

Making a positive impact on young peoples lives

Our Rising Outreach Mentors are assigned to young people to work intensively with them supporting them to achieve their goals and aspirations so that they can live successful and fulfilling lives.

They provide young people with independent living skills support so that they can learn the basic essentials to becoming self-sufficient. We help prevent homelessness and teach empowerment, life skills and self-development.  We offer therapeutic based emotional support and will listen to their worries, concerns and will help them in resolving these obstacles.

We will assess our mentor's independent skills through the recruitment process, induction training and ongoing learning and development to ensure they are equipped with the skills to guide our young people with the correct knowledge.

We want to alleviate the worries and stresses that come with learning to become independent such as paying bills, understanding the benefit system, writing a professional CV and preparing for an interview. We also support young parents in understanding the skills and knowledge that are necessary in becoming a nurturing and effective parent.

We provide young people with housing advice and support and can assist them when liaising with the Local Authority Children’s Services and Housing Departments in regard to their housing situation and the options available to them. We help young people to understand their rights and responsibilities regarding their housing and support them to avoid eviction and in maintaining a professional relationship with their landlord.

All of our young people receiving a service from LASHA will also be entitled to our Rising Outreach Mentoring Programme once they move on from our Support and Accommodation Service. Young people on our programme will be entitled to attend our free educational workshops aimed at building their Independent Living Skills.
